Daily Future Presentation
Week 1 - Preparation for Week 2
I worked with Hannah Williams-Stewart fro the daily future presentation and we chose to explore the snapchat discover feature. We both though this was an interesting feature because it makes viewing news fun. We all use snapchat and have used this feature so we thought everyone could relate.
Snapchat discover feature
Snapchat ‘discover’ feature is a fun way to look at news and entertainment through an app. Snapchat has an easy swipe right function to see a variety of different news and entertainment. The discover feature shows news in an interesting, visual way using images for every news headline. This is important because we have a short attention span and the feature helps to capture your attention fast eg. shirtless Zac Efron with emojis around it #wow #relatable.
Each news article has Headlines that are definitely targeted at younger demographic / young adults e.g. “I found out what men on tinder really want” They also have engaging pictures which is another thing to capture our attention and get us to click on the article.
The feature has a variety of different genres/magazines to appeal to a wider audience eg. ‘cosmopolitan, BBC news and NBA’
The user experience starts off when the user clicks on the article they are interested in. A fast paced short video starts, showing highlights of the topic, which is attention grabbing and interesting giving you the initial impression of what you are about to see straight away. From there the user knows if they want to learn more. Some videos ask questions and tell the user facts in Order to encourage them to swipe up to ‘read more’. You are given the option to tap on the video which will quickly move on to the next one. If the video interests you you can swipe down to read the full article.
At the bottom of each article, you have the option to subscribe to that magazine or news genre so you can access it easier from your snapchat stories.
